
JUNIOR CRICKET PROGRAM
Junior cricket is played within the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai & Hills District Cricket Association (HK&HDCA) and is offered to male and female children aged from 8 to 16 years, with the cut-off date to determine their age group being the child’s age on 31st August each year. However, in some cases exemptions can be applied for.
All Junior mixed teams play on Saturday mornings and Friday evenings for Girls Only teams with varied start times depending on the age group and fixture.
- U8/9’s play 16 over matches with soft balls and no protective equipment with estimated duration 2 hours. Players in these teams will have attended the Cricket Blast program in previous seasons to develop the basic skills.
- U10/11’s play “Stage 1” 20 over matches with estimated duration 2.5 hours.
- U12/13’s play “Stage 2” 30 over matches with estimated duration 4 hours.
- U14-16’s play “Stage 3” 30 over matches with estimated duration 4 hours and/or if suitable may have opportunities to play Senior Cricket on Saturday afternoons.
The number of players per team, rules, pitch length, boundary size and type of ball used will vary based on the age and skill level of the players.
- Each Junior team will have a trained volunteer coach & manager and parents are encouraged to get involved. Training and support will be provided by the club.
- Team equipment is supplied however players are encouraged to bring their own gear if available.
- Annual registration Fees include a club cap and playing shirt. Training shirts are available to purchase at registration.
- White or sports shorts and joggers are acceptable for U8/9 players. However, players in U10 and above are required to wear white cricket trousers (not provided by the club).
- Team training sessions commence on Sundays before the season starts and on weeknights during the season. Training times and venues to be announced by host club.
- All home and away matches are played in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai and Hills District.
- Our home grounds are Booth Park, Cheltenham Oval and Pennant Hills High School.
- The season starts on the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in September, but players can join teams until October depending on registration numbers.
- The season finishes in mid March and there is no play during school holiday periods.
- All Junior teams are mixed gender, unless advised, and formed in a joint collaboration with the Pennant Hills District Cricket Club.
